Note from our suppliers: On the Can-O-Worms we have 3 trays, the bottom one is a collector tray, which the tap screws into. The other two are working trays, these have a mesh base to allow drainage down to the collector tray. Customer very often add working trays to make it easier to harvest the compost. The working tray is where the worms live and breed and it is where the food is added. Once a working tray is full the next tray is placed on top and the worm migrate to the upper tray. It takes a while for the worms to migrate but once they have the bottom working tray can be taken out and the compost used. This way only 2 working trays are needed but very often customers like to have 3 working trays.
